16-year-old from Imathia built the first "smart walking stick" for the blind

The walking stick, through an ultrasound sensor, detects distances, detects obstacles during movement and sends an audible message to the user's mobile so they are aware of them. Greece is generating big brains and everyday stories confirm the Greeks' appeal to technology.

In Alexandria of Imathia, Athanasios Babalis, a 16-year-old student of the 1st General High School of Alexandria, with the help of his computer science teacher, Yiannis Sitaridis, built a “smart” walking stick for blind people, which made sense in the scientific world and is expected to solve many problems.
