A Vision for Votanikos

A Vision for Votanikos

A Vision for Votanikos

Athens Vision is a proposal for the regeneration of 93 hectares (230 acres) of land located in the Votanikos district, just 3 km west of downtown Athens. For decades the area has been occupied by industrial buildings and old factories. The City of Athens has been long discussing plans to breathe new life in the area, especially after the extension of the metro line in the district centre.

Two young Greek architects, Natasha Lianou & Ermis Chalvatzis working for Zaha Hadid Architects Studio, presented their proposal for an urban park which combines residential and office towers, green areas, cultural space and retail plazas. "It is a solution to the sparsity of green areas and the dense urban fabric of Athens. The urban park would be developed in multiple layers, where visitors could experience the park from various points of view. The top floor of the towers will have gardens and areas where residents can relax with clear views of the Parthenon, the coastline and the sky."

The project also focuses on encompassing the neighbouring Agricultural University of Athens, since, after all, Votanikos was named after the nearby botanical garden.
