Beloved Greek-American Ernie Anastos is going back to school, according to a statement from Fox 5 New York which noted that the veteran news anchor has “enrolled at Harvard Business School for various studies in leadership management principles and additional plans for a specialized executive education program in entertainment, media and sports,” the Daily News reported on June 15.
Anastos, 76, will begin class on June 17 after 15 years as an anchor on Fox 5, the Daily News reported, adding that he began his career in Boston, Chicago, and Providence, before joining WABC’s Eyewitness News in New York in 1978 and becoming a fixture of TV news in the Big Apple.
Mayor Bill de Blasio honored Anastos at Gracie Mansion on March 21, 2017, declaring it “Ernie Anastos Day.”
Anastos has also won many Emmy awards in his career, and told the Daily News in 2018 when he celebrated his 40th anniversary as a broadcaster that “Every night I go on the air and say ‘Good evening,’ then tell people why it’s not. I try to focus on positive stories. Yes, there are problems, and there are also solutions.”
He also told the Daily News that being a newsman “a positive affirmation of my purpose in life" and “that being recognized by several generations of New Yorkers is one of his biggest thrills.”
Anastos graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, the Daily News reported, adding that he also has five honorary doctorates.
Anastos posted on Instagram, “I am so grateful for your kind wishes and wonderful comments! I’m so excited and preparing for new adventures for NYC, it’s people and you the viewers!”
