Greece and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries' prosecuting authorities, the ministry of justice said on Sunday.
Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis and the Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, Xu Lingyi, exchanged views about fighting corruption during the Chinese official’s two-day visit to Athens, the ministry said.
Kontonis also informed Xu about the priority given the Greek government on this issue.
"Greece is suffering from the economic crisis and its consequences on the Greek people. One of the factors that led the country to this tragic situation was the corruption that prevailed in the Greek political system," he said.
"This is why fighting corruption, which affects the economy and causes social inequality, as well as accountability of those who have been involved in such incidents are the main concern of the government," he added.
