The Amazon founder is $10.4 billion behind the world's richest person, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has become the world's second richest person with a net worth of $75.6 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Wednesday saw the 53-year-old surpass Inditex SA's Amancio Ortega and Berkshire Hathaway Inc's Warren Buffett, with Amazon.com Inc. rising $18.32
and adding $1.5 billion to Bezos' wealth.
According to Bloomberg Technology, the Greek American now has $700 million more than Buffett and is $1.3 billion above Ortega, who is Europe's richest person.
The increase came just a day after he revealed his plans to buy Souq.com, an online retailer based in Dubai.
This year alone, Bezos has increased his fortune by $10.2 billion, experiencing the third biggest rise on the Bloomberg index this year following Chinese parcel-delivery billionaire Wang Wei's $18.4 billion gain and Facebook Inc founder Mark Zuckerberg's $11.4 billion.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates continues to be the world's richest person at $86 billion, with the Amazon founder $10.4 billion behind.
