This street that is located in Plaka, exists and has kept the same name for almost 25 centuries! Its name is Tripodes Str.
There is also a reference for this street in the book of Guinness Records. The street took its name from the bronze tripodes which were settled along it.
In the same street, it is said that Pericles met courtesan Phryne durinmg the ancient years. In there, it was also located the house of Mr. and Mrs. Kokovikou (George Constantine and Maro Kondou), from the well-known Greek movie “And the woman should be afraid of her husband to the man” …. «Η δε γυνή να φοβήται τον άνδρα»
When Athens became the official capital of Greece, Tripodes Str was at its peak, with many reputable Greeks, choosing this street as the right place to build their homes. The first residence is located right towards the ancient monument of Lycicratus and the second one is located in Tripodes 22, close to Nicholas Ragkava church, which on the front door is decorated with the statue of Athena.
This old street has always been one of my favorites. Without knowing at first glance the history behind it and how old it was, I used regularly walking on there, with my family and in fact it was one of the first streets I have ever walked in. I used to take long strolls there trying the most delicious crepes with chestnuts in Amaltheia, incredible meatballs in the well-known cafeneion ”Sxolarxeio” and of course watching traditional Karagkiozis performances in ”Figoures and Koukles” ( Figures and Dolls)
