Top Greek Australian students recognised at Premier’s VCE Awards

A total of 307 awards are due to be presented to Victorian high school graduates for their achievements in last year’s VCE exams, including 276 Study Awards, 28 Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Awards and three Top International Student Awards.

Amongst them are at least seven Greek Australians, with one of them, Dean Damevski (Konstantinos Makantassis), awarded the prestigious Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Award.

The Kew High School graduate also received a Study Award for Legal Studies.

The Top All-Round VCE High Achiever awards recognise those students who achieved study scores of 46 or higher out of 50 in at least five VCE subjects, while Study Awards recognise the best performers in individual VCE subjects.

Other Greeks who received Study Awards included the following:

  •  Alexander Karalis (Xavier College) in Classical Greek
  • Christina Vakkas (Melbourne Girls’ Grammar) in Classical Studies
  • Anna Pantazis (Loreto Mandeville Hall) in English
  • Artemis Moschoudi (Oakleigh Grammar) in Modern Greek
  • Michael Kantounatakis (Brighton Grammar School) in History Revolutions
  • Starshi Despotellis (Billanook College) in Music Performance (VCE VET)

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Department of Education and Training decided to postpone the 2020 award ceremony for the Premier’s VCE Awards until further notice.

“Letters have been sent out to recipients detailing this. We thank you for your understanding, we hope to celebrate the amazing achievements of these students in the future,” the Department’s statement reads.
