Born in Athens, in 1978, Dimos Dimarogonas is an Associate Professor at the Automatic Control Lab of the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. He was recently awarded €1.5 million by the European Research Council to focus on his research in developing novel tools for planning and control of distributed hybrid systems.

To understand the application of this technology it is easier to imagine robots working together, performing a task in some car plant.

Coordination and team work between robots is necessary for the task performed. If one robot breaks down, decentralized control allows for the robot to have its individual system fixed without intervention from the central control panel.

This is the first ERC Starting Grant competition under the EU's Horizon 2020 programme, and the seventh to date, awarding €485 million to early-career talent.
