The first Greek Tourism Workshop was held at the Azadi Grand Hotel in Tehran, on February 16. The event is an initiative of the tourist companies Mideast and Tourism Today, with the participation of Greek National Tourism Organization and 22 four- and five-star hotels, mainly from Athens, Crete and Halkidiki.

This organization, taking place on the occasion of Aegean Airlines direct flights from Athens to Tehran scheduled for this summer, aimed to attract the Iranian market and to increase the arrival of Iranian tourists in Greece. According to Mideast Travel CEO, "the number of Iranian tourists to other countries has tripled since 2002. […] It is possible that Greece may win a large part of this market in the near future, especially since Iranians no longer wish to visit Gulf countries and seem to be interested in countries like Greece."
