The annual BRW Young Rich list features four young wealthy Greeks among the 100 wealthiest Australians. Top of the list are Atlassian co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar with a record $4.6 billion worth of assets, tenfold the amount of the names that follow. Among the young businessmen and celebrities are four Greeks:
1.Nick Georgalis
The young Greek worth $144 million is the highest-earning young Greek in Australian, who ranks 17th on the list. He earned his money via successful property deals in Canberra where he is based. He has stirred some controversy with his company, Geocon, changing the face of Australia’s capital city by building high-rise buildings.
2. Tim Demetriou
By helping enroll students in courses for which they were unsuited or had little hope of graduating, Tim Demetriou comes in at 17th place on the young rich list. He earned $84 million by co-founding Acquire Learning. The vocation/education company started by offering career orientation but also helps job seekers find employment. It also owns a stake of job classifieds business CareerOne.
3.Kosta Drakopoulos
The young Greek, with a fortune worth $60 million, is 42nd on the list. He appears on the list for the first time and is a rags-to-riches story after dropping out of a construction course, packing boxes for Nike and doing other stints before deciding to go back and get his building license before founding property firm Drakk in 2006 that builds small apartment projects around Melbourne and Geelong.
4. Kayla Itsines
There are only eight women on the list, and Itsines is one of them thanks to her fitness empire that takes her to the 51st place with a fortune of $46 million. A personal trainer, she used social media to make her business a global sensation. Recently, she was on Time’s The 30 Most Influential People on the Internet. The Bikini Body Training Company gets revenue from the Bikini Body Guide download sold for $69.97 and the Sweat with Kayla app that has been downloaded more than 1 million times by Android users and costs $55.42.
