First Enterprise Greece office opens at Melbourne’s Greek Centre

First Enterprise Greece office opens at Melbourne’s Greek Centre

Enterprise Greece, the Greek government agency that promotes exports and incoming investments, will soon be opening an office at Melbourne’s Greek Centre.

The official announcement was made by Greek Economy and Development Minister Dimitris Papadimitriou during the budget debate in the Greek Parliament this week.

President of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria, Bill Papastergiadis said he was pleased with the announcement because it demonstrates that the current Greek government is resolved to action matters quickly.

Speaking to Neos Kosmos, Mr. Papastergiadis referred to his meeting with the Greek minister during the latter’s recent visit to Australia. Mr. Papadimitriou was invited to the Greek Community Building where he met with the key funds and superannuation managers of Australia of Greek background.

Greek Australians gave the minister insight into the current framework for funds raising regarding significant infrastructure projects and how banks and private equity are related. Mr Papadimitriou, on the other hand, presented a detailed assessment of where Greece stands as it concerns current projects, future prospects and taxation incentives.

According to Papastergiadis, at the conclusion of the meeting, which was informative from everyone’s perspective, members of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) said they would offer a space in the building owned by GCM free of charge so that the Greek government could set up an office of Enterprise Greece on their premises.

For Mr. Papastergiadis it is essential that such an office opens in Melbourne as a way to continue the dialogue between Greece and Australian key funds managers. He also went on to explain that Enterprise Greece would have a lot to gain from being established in the Greek Centre since the place is already a hub for Greek business.

It is worth noting that Melbourne’s Greek Centre receives thousands of visitors every week as several banks, schools and lawyers have offices based there.
