We are glad to announce that the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, won the World Final of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition on 29 September, 2016. The final was judged by Judge Peter Tomka, Judge Hanqin Xue and Judge Kirill Gevorgian, from the International Court of Justice. The Final took place at the "Paraninfo Enrique Diaz de León" UdeG, Mexico, during IAC 2016.
Team members of the winning team from Greece were Ms. Georgia-Eleni Exarchou, Ms. Filareti Filaretou-Kouimtzi, Ms. Sofia Stellatou, Faculty Advisor Georgios Kyriakopoulos and Assistant Faculty Advisor Georgia-Maria Kalogirou. The Best Oralist title of the Final was awarded Ms. Filareti Filaretou-Kouimtzi, also from this university.
The Runner-Up team in the Final was Obafemi Awolowo University, City of Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The students of this team were Miss Toluwalope Oluwatobi Dada, Miss Irene Inemesit Ekord and Mr. Philips Timilehin Adekemi, with Faculty Advisor Dr. Akinwale Orifowomo.
One semi-finalist of the competition, which that took place on 27 September, 2016, was Curtin University, Perth, Australia, with students Ms. Rachel O’Meara, Ms. Jocelyn Watts and Mr. Ricardo Napper. The Faculty Advisor was Prof. Dr. Vernon Nase.
The other semi-finalist team was from McGill Institute of Air and Space Law, Montreal, Canada. The students of this team were Mr. Ted Newsome, Mr. Aram Kerkonian and Mr. Julius Dunton. The Faculty Advisor was Prof. Dr. Ram Jakhu and Assistant Faculty Advisor was Ms. Maria Manoli. This team won the Best Memorials Award.
