Giorgos Zarkadas a third year student at the 5th Haidari Junior High School participated in the 77th Student Competition in Mathematics "Thales" 2016 - 2017. He is one of only six Athens third year Junior High School students to pass.

Then the winners will take part in the competition "The Archimedes" on March 4, 2017, in order to select the National Team that will take part in the 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (Ohrid, May 2017), at the 21st Balkan Mathematical Youth Olympiad (Bulgaria, June 2017) and the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (Rio de Janeiro, July 2017).
