Acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos on Saturday won the Grand Jury Prize for his film “The Favourite” at the Venice Film Festival.
Lanthimos added another award in his rich collection, this time winning second place in the prestigious film festival.
The chairman of the jury of the 75th Venice Film Festival Benicio del Toro gave the Golden Lion Award to the Mexican Alfonso Cuaron for “Roma”.
At the same time, English actress Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Anne of England in “The Favourite” won the Best Female Actress prize.
“The Favourite” is a satirical period drama that takes place in 18th century England where the war of succession to the throne is raging. It tells the story of three women: Queen Anne, Duchess Sarah Churchill and Baroness Abigail Masham and the palace machinations.
