Further increase in tourism from the United States to Greece is expected in 2015. The updated reservations and general information gathered by the Office of Greek Tourism Organisation (EOT) in New York, reflect a "significant increase" in the number of tourist bookings packets, which is mainly attributed to the decline of the euro against the dollar.
The interest of Americans to visit Greece is also confirmed at the annual travel report conducted by the newspaper "New York Times» (The New York Times Travel Show), at the exhibition-conference center Jacob Xhavit, on the west side of Manhattan, from 23 to 25 January.
"The report is very important," said Consul General of Greece in New York, George Eliopoulos, adding that "for this, the EOT ensures that Greece is present and, once again, proves that we are an attractive destination for everyone".
Mr. Iliopoulos noted that "America had a large increase of arrivals in Greece during the last year. And the fact that the dollar strengthened compared to the euro, makes Greece even more attractive. The average American tourist spends more money on holidays than the average European tourist and the US are really a very good market for the greek tourist product".
In conclusion, he stressed that "the messages are particularly promising for this year. If this trend with the euro continues, Greece will become a highly competitive product, compared to other destinations. "
