The Speaker Mrs. Zoi Konstantopoulou held a press conference in the Lounge of the House, providing "Information on the operation of the Parliament during the new Term."
The press conference was attended by the 3rd Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee, Mrs. Despina Charalambidou.
In her introductory speech, Mrs. Konstantopoulou, emphasized that the parliamentary process will be conducted with the due respect for the Constitution and Standing Orders. She stressed that Members of the Parliament will be facilitated at the exercise of their work, but emphasis will also be given on fulfilling their obligations. Furthermore, she noted the importance of rigorously applying the principles of transparency, accountability and legitimacy in the parliament's functioning.
The Speaker referred to the establishment of a Debt Audit Committee with the participation of distinguished personalities, to be announced soon. She also announced the reconstituting and improving of the Committee to work on the subject of German reparations and compensation.
Further more, she expressed her firm commitment to direct, unmediated and official information for citizens regarding the parliamentary work and the opening of the House to the people, the younger generation, researchers, social organizations, underligning that the House, through social interventions, should share with the society part of its resources.
