We inform you that the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy in cooperation with the Municipality of Kos, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Union of the Dodecanese, inaugurates the exhibition "March 7, 1948: the completion of a journey " Historical-Folklore Museum Kos (Hani), Monday, March 7, 2016 at 12:45.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
Through documents and photo reproductions, documents and newspapers presented the final stages of the course of the Dodecanese to their integration into the Greek territory. The exhibition material is organized into thematic sections that follow the time sequence of events. So, presented the period of Italian occupation of the islands (1912-1943), the events of World War II (1943-1945), including the battles of Kos and Leros, the German occupation and the action of the Sacred Band, the period British administration (1945-1947), the diplomatic struggle of the Greek government to achieve the Union (1946-1947), the Greek military administration of the islands (1947-1948) and finally, after the official union on March 7, 1948, the establishment of civil administration in the form of the Dodecanese the General administration (1948-1955). Alongside the historical events, each section focuses on the lives of the people themselves, their daily life, their customs and their work, in order to create many individual dialogues between "big" and the many "small" human stories.
The report records from the Library of Parliament, Benaki Museum, the Gennadius Library, the General State Archives, the War Museum, the Karamanlis Foundation and the United Photojournalist Archive and private collections of rare and valuable editions.
