Passed away Emmanuel (Michael) Jaharis: A wealthy tycoon, contributor to Hellenism, Orthodoxy, Arts and Sciences

Passed away on February 17 at the age of 87 years, the Greek-American businessman and vice president of the Archdiocesan Council, Emmanuel (Michael) Jaharis).

In March 2015 he was 847th in the list of richest people and the 297th in the United States, with personal wealth of $ 2.2 billion.

Over the past three decades he has been one of the leading supporters of Hellenism and Orthodox Church in the US, financially supporting the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Archdiocese of America, the Institutes of "Leadership 100" and "Faith", the Metropolitan Museum, the solidarity efforts to the Greek people, but also Cyprus.

The Jaharis Family Foundation has bequeathed permanent Greek and Byzantine art exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (where there is a special wing with its name) and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2013, the Jaharis Foundation bequeathed the Chair of Orthodox Theology and Culture "Archbishop Demetrios" at Fordham University. That same year, the Institute of Family Jaharis offered about $ 3 million to relief the crisis being tested Greek people.
