The Speaker, Mr. Evangelos Meimarakis met with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Mr. Michael Papadopoulos, and the Secretary General of the ITU * (International Telecommunication Union), Mr. Houlin Zhao, during his official visit to our country.
During the meeting, the Speaker was informed about the election of Greece to the Board the ITU (with 149 votes out of 168 voting countries) as it marks 150 years since its establishment, which demonstrates the important role that our country can play in in the development of the industry.
In addition, the political will for a stable and bilateral cooperation was confirmed, as the sector of Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is one of the key areas of the economy, as a substantial contribution to tackling the economic crisis and create growth and jobs work.
The Speaker expressed his gratification and promised to assist them in any effort aimed at the development of these sectors.
