University of Thrace Law School Wins International Competition

The Democritus University of Thrace Law School team, won first place in Telders International Law Moot Court Competition for 2018, and received the Max Huber Best Score Award.

In addition, the Greek team received the Carnegie Award for the Best docket from the plaintiff’s side as well as the Finalist Award. The 41st annual contest was held in The Hague, the capital of International Law, from May 24 to May 26.

The Telders International Law Moot Court Competition is organized by the Law School of the University of Leiden and the Grotius Center for International Legal Studies, while its final phase is held at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Every year, more than 20 teams of undergraduate and postgraduate students from English, German, French, Russian and other universities participate in the Virtual Trial.

The Law School of the Democritus University of Thrace has been continuously participating in the contest since 1986 and has won numerous distinctions.

This year’s group consisted of Despina Hatzopoulou and Dimitris Karayiannis, students of the third year as plaintiffs and Katerina Koinaki and Chrysanthi Koloka, fourth and third year students respectively, as defendants.

The coaches were Dr. Hara Aroni, Eleni Gerasoudi and Maria-Despina Psaromiligou, who had participated with similar success in the Virtual Trial in 2017. Since 1996, Deputy Professor Konstantinos Antonopoulos has been organizing the teams’ participation in the virtual trial.
