Documenta, the art event based in Kassel, Germany, will for the first time be held in two places in 2017: at its original venue, and in Athens, Greece.
The official announcement was made on the sidelines of ITB Berlin on last Thursday (March 5) by Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis, Kassel Mayor Bertram Hilgen and Documenta CEO Annette Kulenkampff.
Documenta - held every five years for 100 days - is considered the world’s largest and most prestigious exhibition of contemporary art. The city of Kassel has been the host of Documenta since 1955.
In 2017, the event will be titled Documenta 14: Learning from Athens and will open in Athens in April 2017 and in Kassel two months later.
