Greek astrophysicist from the Greek Diaspora won the Shaw Astronomy Award for her contribution to the study and understanding of magnetars

The international Shaw Prize in Astronomy for 2021 was equally shared by the Greek astrophysicist of Greek Diaspora Dr Chryssa Kouveliotou, Professor and Chair in the Department of Physics at George Washington University, USA and corresponding member of the Academy of Athens since 2016, and by Victoria M. Kaspi, a Professor of Physics and Director of McGill Space Institute at McGill University in Canada, for their contribution to the study and understanding of magnetars.

On the occasion of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution and ahead of the opening of the exhibition Beholding Liberty! At the Hellenic Parliament, two centuries later, an online press conference took place at the Senate Hall of the Parliament. The speakers were the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Constantine Tassoulas, the President of the “Greece 2021” Committee, Mrs. Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, the History Professor and member of the Scientific Committee overseeing the Exhibition, Mrs. Maria Efthymiou and the Curator of the Exhibition, Director of the Parliamentary Library Department, Mrs. Maria Kamilaki
