Teenage athlete Emmanouil Karalis from Crete just broke the world record in the pole vault Under 20 category nailing a 5.78-metre jump at the Pan-Hellenic Teen Track Championship that took place in Piraeus on Sunday (Greek time).
Karalis also tried a 5.86 metre leap which is the current men’s national record that did not eventuate into a successful jump; it did however prove that he had the potential to hit that mark.
The previous record at 5.75 metres belongs to Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis.
Karalis also holds the 11th place at the European Athletics Indoor Championships which took place in Belgrade last March and he has qualified for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham that will be held from 1 to 4 March.
