Grigorios Aggelidis: The first MP of Greek origin in the Bundestag

The title of the first MP of Greek immigrants elected to the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) is held by 52-year-old Liberal politician Gregoris Angelidis (FDP). As reported in a Deutsche Welle article, until a few months ago in Neustad, a city with 45,000 inhabitants near Hanover, most people who knew him would combine his name with football and social activities. Aggelidis is president of local team FC Wacker, who plays in the 8th division of German football, is a member of a club and promotes the region as well as local committees on youth issues. But a few months ago he won a confident position in the list of the FDP parliamentary candidates in the state of Lower Saxony and on 24 September he was elected to the Bundestag.

Grigorios Aggelidis was born in 1965 in the Hannover region. He grew up there as the son of a worker and a retailer, he spent part of his childhood in Greece. Aggelidis moved to the free economy after completing his Abitur and a subsequent bank scholarship apprenticeship.

Today, Aggelidis is co-owner of an independent Hamburg asset management company. Aggelidis is married and has two children. He lives in Evensen, a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge.

In March 2017, the national representatives of the Lower Saxony FDP elected Aggelidis to third place for the 2017 Bundestag election. In addition Aggelidis candidate in the parliamentary constituency Hannover-Land I . At the Bundestag election, the FDP in Lower Saxony won 9.3 percent of the second votes, with which Aggelidis also moved into the 19th German Bundestag. [3] In his constituency, he was third with 10.5 per cent after Hendrik Hoppenstedt (CDU, 34.8 per cent) and Caren Marks (SPD, 27 per cent).
