While most salaries in Australia have remained stagnant for the last few years, billionaires keep profiting at an unprecedented level. The Australian Financial Review, undertook its hardest ever task calculating the net worth of its Rich Listers for 2018.
The Financial Review Rich List includes Australia’s 200 richest people; the publication has had to add another 16 from billionaires since last year’s edition alone. In total, this year’s list features a record 76 billionaires.
According to Rich List editor John Stensholt the wealth of the already rich in Australia is skyrocketing at a whopping 21 per cent, with tycoons collectively amassing $283 billion.
For the second consecutive year Anthony Pratt tops the list with a net worth reaching $12.9 billion. The paper manufacturing and recycling tycoon’s fortune is surging mainly due to Pratt Industries’ rapid growth in the United States.

Frank Lowy – $8.42b
Ivan Glasenberg – $8.32b

Among Australia’s 200 Richest for 2018 one can find six business moguls of Greek heritage who have racked up millions from their ventures. For the first time The Financial Review lists two Greek Australian billionaires.
The wealthiest Greek on the Rich List is Sydneysider car dealer and chairman of rugby league club Sydney Roosters Nick Politis with a difference. Sitting on the 55th place, he has doubled his fortune within only one year, taking his worth up to $1.35 billion from $773 million in 2017.
Next is developer and property manager Con Makris from Adelaide with a $1.26 billion fortune that has not changed since last year.
Melbourne also features on the list, represented by wholesale travel guru Spiros Alysandratos who’s net worth has gone up from $582 million last year to $800 million.
Sydney’s developer and liquor king Theo Karedis is next with $737 million, followed by property developer Harry Stamoulis and his $660 million.
Last but not least, is mining pioneer, Kerry Harmanis, from Perth whose wealth is estimated at $654 million.
