Athens' recently launched National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) has got chins wagging both locally and abroad, attaining a place on The Guardian's Top 10 new museum openings in 2017.
The anticipated museum had a soft launch in October 2016, following a decade of ups and downs due to various financial and bureaucratic setbacks.
The reconstruction of EMST now sees it housed in the old Fix beer brewery, with the temporary exhibition space showing 'Urgent Conversations: Athens-Antwerp', while the permanent collection is expected to be unveiled in autumn this year.
Among the other cities that got a mention were Paris, Los Angeles and Cape Town with institutions celebrating everything from history, art and design.
