Greek American Sam Galeotos Runs for Wyoming Governor

Businessman Sam Galeotos is among six Republican candidates battling for nomination to become next Governor of Wyoming in the elections to be held in November.

No Democrat has come close to winning major office in deep-red Wyoming in over a decade, leaving the Republican winner heavily favored to win.

Galeotos, 60, was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Galeotos family established roots in Wyoming when Sam’s grandfather and his two brothers first arrived in the capital city in 1910.

They quickly became a part of the local community, establishing businesses in the food service industry, and have remained active generations later.

Galeotos is executive chairman of Cheyenne-based data storage firm Green House Data. His past titles include chief executive of Cheap Tickets, Inc., one of the first online travel companies.

The Associated Press describes Galeotos as the “most Donald Trump-like candidate” of the bunch.

It says that his business background could attract voters worried about Wyoming’s economy battered by soft oil and gas prices and declining demand for coal. Fossil fuels provide about 70 percent of Wyoming’s state government revenue, resulting in a budget deficit approaching $1 billion.

Galeotos’ solution? Technology — everything from better internet broadband to block-chain, the nascent electronic ledgering technology behind Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

“I think the folks that work with me would say I like to live in the future to a great extent. I like to think about possibilities and figure out how to accomplish things that a lot of people would think are not accomplishable,” Galeotos said in a Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce forum in June.

Galeotos was named “Business Person of the Year” in 2016 by both the Cheyenne Board of Realtors and the Wyoming State Board of Realtors, based on exceptional commitment and dedication to the community. He was elected board president of the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority in July 2017, where he has focused on revitalization of the downtown Cheyenne historic district.

He is currently a founding member, and parish council president of Holy Apostles Orthodox Christian Church of Cheyenne and serves on the Metropolis Council for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver.

Sam lives with his wife Stacey and his daughters Isabella and Nicolette on their ranch near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
