Queues for ... Greek souvlaki in cosmopolitan Manhattan

The greek souvlaki did surprise ... even conquering the elusive Manhattan. It started in 2010 by young and energetic Greek businessmen, in an era in an American megalopolis dominated by sushi.

The intention of "GRK" is to introduce Americans to "pitogyro", the souvlaki and other Greek tastes. The motto adorning the shop is "from the people who introduced you to drama and democracy, now we present the simple perfection of GRK “.

Yet, they were able to predict that the Greek souvlaki (souvlaki or gyro) could steal the show in the posh neighborhoods of New York. Thus they dared and finally managed to make vogue a Greek delicacy to the American elite.

Today marriages of wealthy New Yorkers and events in big brand stores such as Cartier, Apple, Tory Burch etc. They have a surprise for their guests a souvlaki “with everything”...

Nikos Playos and his wife Tina Vougioukli-Playos were the first who in 2010 tried to introduce the residents of Manhattan to authentic Greek souvlaki. “My husband and I are first generation Greek Americans.”

In August 2010 Nick with his brother Kosta, opened a food truck (truck-cantina), which each day was parked in a different neighborhood of Manhattan.

We were the first to set up a truck-cantina with authentic Greek souvlaki, which is why we called it Souvlaki GR ( www.souvlakigr.com ). In the same year we won the Vendy Rookie of the Year Award, awarded to the best street foods.
